In our previous week sermon, we talked about the 'The two spirit of Man' to bring our awareness to the natural composition of man (spiritual and physical) in other to equip us with the knowledge of the indwelling power in man and the relationship to godliness because there are many that do not know the power they carry until they are faced with challenges or difficulties of life. 

Preamble:

This week, we shall be looking at the topic ''The Wrath of God'' to learn how God places his judgement and execute justice over man and also to be aware of all the instruments or criteria and conditions which might necessitate this. This will also be the bedrock of every believer's lifestyle in other to live up to God standard and be in peace with him, which will be the required platform for living a glorious life fulfilled in God. As a follower of Christ, you cannot live in isolation to the rules that will bring wrath upon your adversary because Satan will not stop to frighten you to intimidation. Please sit back and buckled up as you proceed with me for this week hot sermon. May the good Lord bless you as you obey.

Introduction: 

The wrath of God, is an inevitable phenomenon even in a believer's life, if he must live to satisfy God and be in peace with him because the world in its entirety is a sinful place by virtue of its nature and so, the major quest of a believer is to live with great caution, so as not to fall into sin. Knowing that the sinful world will always desire to have you, so as to entangles you and bring you to a confrontation with your God (Genesis 4: 7). This is why a believer must learn first and foremost, not to be conformed to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12: 2). 

God's wrath is unavoidable, if you must follow Christ to succeed because the world will not stop to desire to have you to himself through intimidation, persecution and all manner of confrontation and this is why you will need God to avenge your oppression at every facet of your life since we wrestle not against the flesh and blood but against principalities and power and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6: 12).

Wrath, as it was being defined by Oxford dictionary means extreme or intense anger. We all know that our God is a merciful God and a faithful father (Psalm 145: 8, Psalm 100: 5). Just imagine when you have a biological father who loves you and is so merciful to you, then all of a sudden, he turns to show you his extreme anger, what will you think has happened? of course, before such anger will come, there must have been some height of disobedience, disorderliness, or some level of wickedness. The forces or weight that will be unleashed alongside the anger will also be very high (on the extreme). This is practically applicable to God, because like i said in my previous sermon, he is a real father indeed, just like your biological or earthly father, with all fatherly attributes found in him also, except the carnal desire of the flesh. 

The power of God that usually comes along with his wrath cannot be overemphasised and no devil or forces can withstand it. In fact, this is where you can test and approve or experience the extreme nature of his power over any situation on this earth and beyond, but there is one great factor above all others that control the manifestation of this extreme power which is PATIENCE and LONG SUFFERING because before God will duly execute his wrath, he must have waited for a justifiable period or the worst scenario of the oppression that comes through disobedience, disorderliness and wickedness, or sometime it might not come immediately or within the present generation but on the subsequent ones, so that the punishment that comes along with the wrath will be over justified. We shall be looking into all the factors that control this basic requirement as we proceed.

This is the reason we have long-suffering, gentleness, love, and faith with the joy of the lord as a major fruit of the holy spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23), because man in its imperfect nature of the flesh might not be able to sustain this requirement of being patience and suffer long to effect the wrath of God, without compromising except the holy spirit helps in this regard. The factor that controls the timing of being patience, whether to suffer long or not in this circumstance is only determined by God himself, because in some cases, the wrath might come within the shortest period while some other cases, it could take a generation to manifest but in all, whether short or long term, the wrath of God must surely come because judgement and vengeance belong to him alone (Romans 12: 19). 

The wrath of God:

One simple truth is that God's wrath must surely come with a blessing in the proportion of the offence to the oppressed, and most time, the blessing cannot be measured as same as that which is without wrath, which means that greater blessing comes with the wrath of God. Even sometimes, when God wants to bless a man greatly, he made him pass through some unfavourable circumstances, so that he can execute his wrath and unleash blessing. Going through such unfavourable circumstances satisfy three basic principles of life which are a major necessity or prerequisite for gaining such blessing from God and equally being justified to have satisfied the worldly price:

1. The principle of the knowledge of good and evil:  Genesis 1-3.

This principle among all, has been part and parcel of the nature of human existence on earth by virtue of the broken covenant between God and man, for partaking of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil according to the scripture above. We realise that God gave man a commandments that they must not eat from this tree but satan deceived them out of his craftiness not to listen to God and therefore made them to partake from it and this had made God to unleash some series of curses upon them, and that, also because they have eaten from it, therefore they will surely die (Genesis 2: 15-17). Though the consequences of this disobedience by eating from the forbidden tree which our lord Jesus Christ had come to pay in other to reconnect man back to God, the father, through the grace available by shedding his blood to atone for their sin has been erased and wiped out, so as not to be under the curse of the law any longer but under grace through faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3: 10-14) but only to those who have accepted him as their lord and saviour (1 John 2: 2, Colossians 2: 14), but the nature of this forbidden tree still takes effect and which is that every knowledge of good must have a considerable knowledge of evil, that is, every good thing must also have a risk of evil, and this is why good and evil are always lure together for every physical manifestation of anything in this present world. This is also the basis for which everything works on this planet earth, and it is the responsibility of man to manage the good involve not to be overcome by the evil. Although this principle is of the world alone and it is the medium through which satan penetrate greatly into mankind.

This is the destiny which our first parent had chosen for mankind by their disobedience act and therefore becomes the fundamentals of the entire human race. The evil aspect of this is the devil and his mission is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10: 10). This is also the reason you must suffer in life for any good thing to come because the sacrifice for the evil aspect which is the worldly price, is of the devil and must be paid first, for that good to happen and so, the devil will be required to carry out his assignment on you, either to steal, kill or destroy before you will be justified to receive the blessing even from God. Jesus Christ also acknowledged that you must give to Ceasar that which belongs to him (Mark 12: 17), which is a part of the worldly sacrifice that must go to him (devil) but you still, have the power to control what to give to him (Luke 10: 19). Giving to Ceaser that which belong to him is a justification of the fact that, the worldly price must be paid without compromise, and that, mankind had got themselves entrapped in the hand of the devil (2 Timothy 2: 26) which therefore necessitate the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to save them from him (devil) (John 3: 7, 1 John 2: 2).  

Do not be deceived, for there is no riches or life enjoyment that has no precedence for suffering, if your generation is enjoying now, a certain generation in the past had paid the price or sometimes, God might decide shifting the suffering to a particular generation or individual as he may wish (1 Kings 21: 29) but the truth is that, that aspect of suffering cannot be avoided (Nahum 1: 3), it must surely come since it is what man had decided for themselves and our God is a God of covenant (Deuteronomy 7: 9). 

Our God, who is so faithful, merciful and loving, is always in the business of coordinating, packaging and managing all these aspect of worldly sacrifice not to hurt his loved ones beyond control or rather, provide the strength to carry the suffering, in other to fulfill all its take for him to release his blessing, and as you are going through that hard time, he knows and he's watching if you will be obedience and still love him, even within that predicament, so that, he can hastily and happily deliver your blessing if you have passed the test of your probation period. God is so faithful and never to be blamed, for every worldly problem and suffering are caused by man themselves, because they got themselve trapped with the devil and in the midst of all these, God still showed his faithfulness by being committed to save them from the hand of the devil and put them back on track. 

Having known that there is a worldly requirement to be fulfilled from this principle of partaking from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and that God, as a father indeed, is always in the business of coordinating, packaging and helping us to confront these inevitable challenges in style without much hurt feeling and still give the grace to cushion or survive it, so that we will be qualify for his blessing as at when due, then you will agree with me that, for every judgement from God, which is based on wrath must include the justification for satisfying this worldly price which is of the devil and it is when the pay period or suffering time has gone beyond normal to what it should take or when the height of wickedness is beyond the limit for satisfying this principle, that the premise for justifying the wrath of God will begin to count. 

Ordinarily, the wrath of God will not take effect from this principle, until the pay period goes beyond the limit and it is only God, himself, that decides how all these should be effected and executed. We shall be considering two cases in the bible when God duly exercise his wrath, as we proceed. I pray that the lord grant you the grace for a proper understanding in Jesus name.

2. The principle of calling for the wrath of God: (Romans 12: 19-21).

The wrath of God, as we have learnt above is an act of God getting extremely annoyed or angry over the unjust nature of mankind and therefore intercept to take revenge for the oppressed and the powerless, especially for his love once. Caling or waiting for wrath from God has some basic principles which must be duly observed for God to intercept and we shall be looking at it in details as we proceed. The wrath from God as we all know comes with power that breaks all natural laws and also delivered blessing to the oppressed. Our bible text above (Romans 12: 19-21) makes us to understand that, we should not take revenge but leave room for wrath, because vengeance is of the lord. To leave room for wrath as it is being stated here requires some basic act of godliness stated in verse 20, of the above scripture, which says, if your enemy is hungry, feed him and if he is thirsty, give him something to drink, that in doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. You see, calling for wrath of God is not something that can be done automatically but will definitely find its course when the need arise, especially when there had been an oppression and it has some rules and principles that must be obeyed for it to manifest, which i will be sharing below.

i. Having gained a credit before God against the oppressor: (Luke 6: 27-36, Romans 12: 20-21)

Before the wrath of God will come into play, God would have seen some level of trustworthiness in the oppressed toward the oppressor, which will equally give the oppressed a resonable amount of credit in God's sight, which also depends on the duration or weight of the oppression. The scripture above (Romans 12: 20) makes us understand that, if your enemy is hungry, feed him, if he is thirsty, give him something to drink, in doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head and this will give you a reasonable amount of credit in God's sight. Our lord, Jesus Christ also afirming this in the scripture above (Luke 6: 27-36) that bless your enemy and do good to those who hate you, that if you love those who love you, whst credit is that to you, even sinner love those who love them and if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you because even sinner do that but love your enemy and do good to those who are good to you, then your reward will be great and you will be children of the most high because he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Beloved, this is pratically the best way to acquire credit in God's sight against your oppressor because the person that want God to fight for him through his wrath will not take revenge by himself but instead leave room for wrath since it carry much power in bringing down whatsoever that comes it's way. God is a judge and as a judge, he love justice. This is why he want you to be the one not to be blame in anything because he love to deliver judgement as a judge and ensure justice is done. Another thing that need to be known is that, when you made yourself not to be blame and acquire credit against your oppressor, it automatically bring down his compassion over you on that matter which will also be the basis for unleashing his wrath. 

ii. Holiness: 

Apart from gaining credit against your oppressor, you must endeavour to live a holy life if you are expecting quick result of his wrath, because God doesn't joke with his children that have obeyed him totally through holiness. The time he will use to deliver judgement for an unbeliever is far longer to the one he will use for a believer who knows what he is doing with God. Holiness controls so many things in God's affairs and it automatically generate deep love and affection from the father to the one who has reserve himself by being holy. Holiness will also enable God to preoperly works throuh you and use you to relate with that oppressor in such a way that will bring total judgement against him. But remember, before God will bring judgement against the oppressor, he will want to have him warned through his words and you might be the one he will be using for that assignment to always use your act of good will to minister repentance to the oppressor because he equally want every sinner to be saved rather than being destroy (Ezekiel 33: 11), but if the oppressor still continue in his wickedness indiscriminately, then God will have no other option than to intercept and shot his mouth forever, especially if the one being oppressed has obeyed him totally. We have seen the series of cases recorded in the bible when the children of God will cry to God if oppressed and God will deliver them all by his mighty hands (2 Chronicles 20: 1-30, Exodus 3 - 20). 

The wrath of God is so powerful that, even if God had committed his power with a seal of covenant to a man and later he (Man) start misbehaving, then the only thing that is left that can destroy such a fellow is the wrath of God, since he still carrying the power with a seal of covenant which God doesn't joke with, because he is a covenant keeping God (Deuteronomy 7: 9), and this means that, God also will have to wait for the period of that wrath as we have duly explained above to be manifested but because he is God, the almighty, he can make the fellow to have his cup filled up quickly, so he can destroy him. This is pratically why satan who is created by God, made powerful and ordained as a guardian cherub with a seal of covenant for God own purpose (Ezekiel 28: 14) is still jumping up and down to deceive people to follow him and very soon, the wrath of God will suddenly destroy him because his cup has been filled up to overflowing. 

The principles behind the wrath of God as explained above, works beyond all natural laws and forces and are meant to compel anything standing on its path to work in it favour, especially when all necessary ground had been duly justified to make it execution flow properly. I pray for someone reading this my sermon that the grace for a proper knowledge on this, may the lord grant it unto you in Jesus name.  

3. The principle of self indulgence: (Galatians 6: 7)

This principle works perfectly on the laws of retribution, that is, whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall also reap (Galatians 6: 7) and this is adequately controlled by nature (God). Whatever you sow on anything in life, the same you will get. Can a man sow cassava and end up to harvest banana? No way. The sweet part of this is that no matter the power you have as a man on this planet earth both spiritually and physically, this laws which is duly control by God himself, the creator and owner of everything that dwell on earth, beneath the earth and the heaven above (Psalm 24: 1-2), has the natural capacity to compel it, because it works with  nature, which forms the basic of the law of creation and nobody on this earth, not even satan, has the power beyond this level because we are all (including satan) created by somebody and that person is God, the omnipotent, the omniscience and the omnipresent. 

Our God is the king over every affair on earth and the final apex judge over every deed of man and so, he releases judgement according to the works of all individuals without any form of bias. The wrath of God as duly explained above must have fulfilled all necessary ground before it execution, especially the three basic principles listed above and i will admonish you to always do good even to your enemy, so that you can heap burning coal on his head and also gain credit for that in God's sight and because you have created a room for wrath, then the wrath of God will eventually destroy him, if he refuse to change but the person that is expecting that wrath also must be clean and remain holy in God's sight for it to be effectual. I pray the lord grant you grace for a deeper knowledge on this, in Jesus name.

Another thing to note as a fact, within the working principles of the wrath of God, is that the more longer or weightier form of suffering being subjected to, will equally produce a proportionate form of blessing. One of the great story in our bible that God had utilised his wrath greatly to perform great miracles and exploit that has not been done in the world is the case of delivering his children from the yoke of the captivity in Egypt (Exodus 3).

Before the children of Isrealite went to Egypt to become a captive, God already told their forefather (Abraham) that his descendant will be maltreated and held captive for 400 years, but he will judge that nation who will hold them captive before which, they will come out with great possession (Genesis 15: 13-14). We see that the greatest miracle of God, like doing wonders even before Pharaoh (Exodus 4: 21 - 10), parting the red sea (Exodus 14: 21-30), and displacing many strong nations to deliver his children unto the promise land (Exodus 3: 17), which were all performed by Moses, the great prophet of God, during his campaign for delivering his people from the captive of Isreal, brought one of the greatest wrath against Pharaoh but before this eventually happen, God had waited for so many years, even when he is ready to deliver his wrath, he is still busy performing signs before Pharaoh to give him some serious warning to let his people go, but Pharaoh refused and ended up a victim of destruction. We see that there is no how, we can judge this case and blame God, because he had make sure all the ground for delivering this great wrath upon that nation are being justified. He (God) uses his wrath which justify the long suffering and maltreatment of his children, and which had also passed the test of the three principles listed above to accomplished this great exploit which had never happen before to deliver great and mighty things unto his children.

Another beautiful example where God will use his wrath to execute great judgement on the world is the case of our lord, Jesus Christ, who had no sin, but yet, was condemn and brought to destruction and God's judgement is coming on the world soon, because of this great purnishment that was brought upon him (Isiaha 53: 5), though God had used this nefarious act of the world (satan) against his son to logically save sinner through his wrath and bring judgement on the world at large.

So i will humbly advise you to submit to God through his son, Jesus Christ, so that on the day of judgement, you can be saved. God is going to judge the whole world through his son, Jesus Christ, by the wrath of God and brings destruction upon the devil and his cohort.

Conclusion:

Now that you are aware of the greatness in the wrath of God, then prepare to live a life that will be tapping into that wrath to bring God's blessing come your way. You can be tapping into his wrath at all levels, remember i said above, that the level of prices you can pay will determine the level of your result, in other words, the sacrificial prices you are subjected to, will be proportionate or will give a considerable level of wrath and blessing. 

Above all, always live your life to acquire credit in God's sight and this will perfect his wrath. May the lord bless you abundantly.

Confession:  

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and saviour and you are convinced that you need him to come into your life so you can also tap into the grace available through shedding of his blood, and equally partake of the effectiveness of his wrath and the blessing that comes with it, and that you are sure, you are ready to repent from all those sin of fornication, adultery, lying, sexual immorality, pride, jealousy, hatred, idolatry, selfish ambition, witchcraft, impurity and debauchery, dissensions, envy, drunkenness, orgies and the likes, then locate a quiet place, be sober and be on your kneel, and make this little confession but remember to be sure of what you are doing, so that you will not be using God to play, when you respect him and give him honour, he will also honour you in the sight of men (Matthew 6: 6).

Lord Jesus, i come with total humbleness of heart to ask for forgiveness of my sins and accept you as my lord and saviour, please forgive me of all my sin (you can begin to name them if you know them) i surrender my life to you and i want you to come and take full charge over my life and i accept you as my lord and my saviour, please cleanse me with your blood that you shed on the cross and make me a new man leaving old things behind, i promise to serve you and do your will at all time and i ask for the strenght to carry on. Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me.
